Deacons Report

The Deacons of Omaha Bible Church met on Tuesday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. in John Schmoll’s home. Willie Zwiener opened us in a heartful prayer, giving thanks for the opportunity we have to serve and all that we have been blessed with as believers.

Pastor Mike Holloway provided us with numerous updates including an overview of financial and attendance numbers, new members and those who have gone, and the encouragement of a large membership class expected on April 1.

Several men have been approached by the elders to consider deacon appointments.  We were briefed on future calendar events: the Ligonier’s Youth Conference in April, VBS in June, and the OBC Fall Family Conference in October.

In addition, Mike is looking forward to teach J. Gresham Machen’s Christianity and Liberalism this summer in an Adult Sunday School class.

John took us on a review and discussion of chapter 10 in the London Baptist Confession of 1689 covering Effectual Calling. We bowed to the reminders the writers gave us of the Almighty’s work – giving us ears to hear and making us willing to believe and follow Him in the day of His irresistible power - “enlightening their minds spiritually and savingly to understand the things of God.”

Our ministry guest was Mike Nichols - who has long been faithful to administrate the Prayer Ministry. Our church’s praise to, and dependency upon, the Lord is ever manifest in this ongoing spiritual service. Mike desires a co-laborer to help usher in broader participation from the congregation.

Other matters highlighted among us were: needs in the body, the OBC Spring Workday on April 15, and new outreach opportunities at community senior centers.

Our next meeting was set for April 25. Our time was closed in prayer and we adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
