Deacons Report

On Tuesday, January 23 the Deacons of OBC met at 7:00 p.m. for a devotional, ministry opportunities, learning about current finances, and fellowship.

Martin Bast facilitated the meeting, with Vimal George taking minutes and Greg Gensler opening in prayer.

Mike Holloway provided us with updates about what is going on at OBC. On the finances, as you can see in the weekly bulletin, the giving has increased. This is a huge praise item for the church.

We also have introduced about 12 new members with a new Getting Started class scheduled in March. Another praise item is that the Adult Sunday School class was moved to the auditorium because the space in the library wasn’t big enough.

We continued in reviewing the next section of The London Baptist Confession of Faith of 1689 (Chapter 15) on Repentance & Salvation. This chapter clearly shows that there is none that does good and does not sin and by the covenant of grace one can be renewed through repentance unto salvation.

In section 5, there is a part that hits it home for me. “That although there is no sin so small but it deserves damnation, yet there is no sin so great that it shall bring damnation to them that repent, which makes the constant preaching of repentance necessary.”

Our ministry guest for the evening was one of our deacons, Greg Gensler. Greg reviewed the different ministries he is involved in starting with his six years heading up the bookstore, which includes another 10 volunteers to make it run as smoothly as it does. Greg also is a home group co-leader.

Ministry items we reviewed consisted of the Spring All-Church work day on April 20. In the near future you should see a signup sheet for help for inside and outside activities.

With this workday coming up, it gives all the ministries that have items in the storage area time to start reviewing them and purge whatever has not been used lately.

We concluded our meeting with praise and prayer at 9:00 p.m. The next deacons meeting will be February 27.
