Come, Let Us Adore Him
Family devotions are difficult. Aside from the challenge of finding time to have family devotions is the difficulty of deciding what to read and discuss. The Christmas season provides a wonderful opportunity for families in this area. Advent devotional books are readily available, and this month I'd like to recommend a new resource for your family.
Paul Tripp has made it a practice to post three tweets on Twitter every morning. One year, during the month of December, all his posts were about the Christmas story. Those tweets are the inspiration and foundation for the advent devotional, Come, Let Us Adore Him. In this new advent devotional, Tripp provides one devotion a day for the 31 days of December.
In his intro to the book, Tripp shares with the reader why he wanted to write this devotional. The Christmas story is one that we are all very familiar with. Tripp says that “familiarity tends to rob us of our wonder” and his desire in writing this advent devotional is “that God would use it recapture your attention” and that “your heart will be surprised by things in this story you’ve never seen before or maybe haven’t seen in a very long time.”
Each day of the devotion begins with one of the tweets he previously posted on Twitter. He then spends a couple of pages expounding upon the theme and topic presented in the tweet. The content of the devotional is centered on various aspects of the Christmas story from why the angels sang to how the incarnation reveals our need for salvation through Jesus Christ alone.
I’m thankful that whatever the theme or topic, Tripp brings it all back to the gospel. Each day then ends with suggested Scripture passages to read and study along with a brief help to parents using this devotional with children.
I’d recommend this helpful advent devotional to families who may be looking for a good resource to aid their family devotions during the Christmas season. It could also be used by individuals looking for something to use on their own. I trust that it would aid you in being in awe of our glorious and matchless Savior, Jesus Christ, this Christmas season.
