Elders Report

The Elders of Omaha Bible Church met on Tuesday, May 8. Our time began with Senior Pastor Pat Abendroth leading us in prayer for our church, with thankfulness for the many godly relationships we have in the body of Christ, and most of all for the person and work of our Lord Jesus Christ, for his love for us, and for the anticipation we all have for his personal and bodily return for us.

Todd Swift led us through a discussion of Chapter 10 of the London Baptist Confession of 1689 on the subject of Good Works. Todd emphasized how encouraging it was to know we are saved by faith alone and not by good works, but he also noted that our faith is to be accompanied by good works, not for our justification, but as part of our sanctification; thus our good works are a fruit of true faith in Christ.

Our Treasurer, Frank Barber shared that the month was a good one for attendance as we averaged a solid 367 people per Sunday in April. He also noted that giving was good as well.

The financial reports for April 2018 show us very close to breaking even for the month with a net income of $-30.89. Giving for April was $51,557 just $669 above our budget for giving of $50,896. Expenses were also in line with budget for the month as we spent $46,703 in April.

We took a fair amount of time to discuss some important pastoral issues as it relates to the life of the church and then we participated in a Skype call with Pastor Vineet Sasane, of Living Hope Church in Pune, India.

Vineet is a native pastor whom we have supported for a number of years. Vineet reported that the church in Pune has undergone some growth in the past few months and as a result, they are in need of finding a larger facility for Sunday morning worship.

Be in prayer for Vineet and Living Hope Church for this as well as many decisions that need to be made in the coming year including developing a leadership team consisting of elders and deacons.

One other opportunity to be in prayer for is potentially supporting a friend of Vineet to attend seminary in India. This presents a very special opportunity for the gospel to impact a people group that is difficult to reach.

Our meeting ended shortly after 9:00 p.m. as Todd Swift closed us with prayer.  Our next meeting is scheduled for June 12.

May you be encouraged in Christ as we are, as we see the Lord working among his people.
