Elders Report

The Elders of Omaha Bible Church met on Tuesday evening September 11. Our meeting was opened in prayer and with thanksgiving for what the Lord is doing at OBC.

Dallas Focht read and reviewed Chapter 20 in the London Baptist Confession of 1689 – “Of the Gospel, and of the Extent of the Grace Thereof.” While the LBC closely resembles the Westminster Confession, Chapter 20 is only found in the LBC.

The authors believed it was necessary to have one chapter on the gospel in summary form, many of the truths already stated in previous chapters. The confession was also making a defense for the gospel against deism which is “a belief in the existence of a God on the evidence of reason and nature only, with rejection of supernatural revelation.”

The LBC asserts that “the promise of Christ and of salvation through him is revealed in the Word of God alone” and asserts the need of a special act of the Holy Spirit to give understanding our need for Christ’s saving work. Thankful that in Christ we have everything we need for life and godliness.

The pastors and elders were encouraged hearing that the new membership class is full. It is wonderful to see Lord’s work in so many lives. We look forward building relationships in worship and in service to the Lord. Please pray for those in the class to get to know OBC and we to know them.

There was also discussion concerning deacons whose terms are up for renewal. We are very thankful for the service our deacons provide to the body. Pray for wisdom for the elders and deacons to serve the body faithfully.

We ended with the start of a discussion on social justice. This is a topic that is getting a lot of attention in society and in the church at large. We want to be faithful to the work of the church in proclaiming the gospel, and to equipping the saints to live in the world in which believers are, as we have been learning in 1 Peter, exiles.

Again, please pray for the pastors and elders as we discuss the important topic so that we may shepherd well the body at OBC.
