Elders Report

The October 2021 elders meeting opened in prayer and with Thanksgiving for God’s provision of grace and mercy to the members of Omaha Bible Church.

Todd Swift led us through Chapter 24 of the London Baptist Confession of 1689 covering Civil Magistrate.

  • It reads, “God, the supreme Lord and King of all the world, hath ordained civil magistrates to be under him, over the people, for his own glory and the public good and to this end hath armed them with the power of the sword, for defence and encouragement of them that do good, and for the punishment of evil doers. Civil magistrates being set up by God for the ends aforesaid; subjection, in all lawful things commanded by them, ought to be yielded by us in the Lord, not only for wrath, but for conscience sake; and we ought to make supplications and prayers for kings and all that are in authority, that under them we may live a quiet and peaceable life, in all godliness and honesty.”

It was a good for me to be reminded that God has ordained, or installed the government (Romans 13) and I should be praying for them and making supplication for all of them.

And being commanded to do so, the outcome for me will be for my good and that I may live a quiet and peaceful life, in all godliness and honesty.

Treasurer Dave Guthrie presented the September 2021 financials. Giving for the month was $70,166 and expenses were $71,144. That resulted in a net operating loss of $1,272 for the month.

For 2021-2022 our new church budget is $931,396, and we need to average $17,909 in weekly giving to meet that goal. We are thankful for the faithful giving of so many and encourage your consideration for what you can do in this next year.

In the bulletin two weeks ago, there was an insert with an update on our newest missionary, Aaron Sasane. If you missed that, you can see the update on the missions board, which is located in the lobby by the front entrance.

Aaron is doing well and is settling in at Westminster California Seminary. Continue to pray for his studies and acclimation to campus life and for his wife and child as they adjust to life in a new country.

We discussed the Fall Family Picnic and the Fall Conference with John Fesko and Matthew Barrett; what a wonderful time of fellowship at both events and the encouragement of the body one to another.

We encourage you to watch for the audio for the conference and to check out their books in the OBC bookstore.

For His Glory,

Dave Guthrie
