Elders Report

The Elders of Omaha Bible Church met on Tuesday, February 15, for their monthly meeting. Todd Swift opened in prayer recognizing and giving thanks for Jesus Christ as head of the church.

As head of the church Jesus gives life and sustains the church by his spirit. He also watches over and governs his church, and it is our prayer that as elders we humbly lead according to his direction and wisdom.

Following prayer, Dave Guthrie led our reading of the London Baptist Confession of 1689, Chapter 28 – Of Baptism and the Lord's Supper. The confession states, “Baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances of positive and sovereign institution, appointed by the Lord Jesus, the only lawgiver, to be continued in his church to the end of the world.”

In baptism we recognize the Lord Jesus as the giver of new life begun now, and in the Lord’s Supper we continue to proclaim his death for our salvation as we wait for his return and the final completion of our salvation. We look forward to the next two chapters in the confession that further explain both ordinances.

Dave Guthrie continued with a review of the January financial reports. We were $3,000 under our monthly budgeted giving of $72,700, but $13,400 under the monthly budgeted expenses of $66,100.

This resulted in a net income for the month of $10,400. We gives thanks to the Lord for providing our “daily bread” as he works in the hearts of the members and friends of OBC to give to gospel ministry.

Next on the agenda was a review of those desiring to become members of OBC. Though there were no new memberships to approve, we were excited to hear of 15 persons in membership class, and another four waiting to be approved. Please be praying that we all might “be mutually encouraged by each other’s faith” (Romans 1:12).

At 8:00 p.m. we joined Aaron Sasane on Zoom. Aaron is a pastoral intern of OBC from India attending seminary at Westminster Seminary in California. Aaron started in the fall of 2021.

Be in prayer for Aaron and family and for their relationships at seminary and at church. We look forward, Lord willing, to having Aaron visit OBC this summer, probably in June.

Our next meeting is scheduled for March 15, 2022.

Also, continue in prayer for one another. Pray that our manner of life might be worthy of the gospel of Christ, that we would stand firm in one spirit, and with one mind strive side by side for the faith of the gospel (Philippians 1:27).

May God richly bless.
