Elders Report

The elders met for their monthly meeting the morning of January 27, 2021. This is a little later than usual and afforded Pastor Pat the opportunity to attend the Ligonier Ministries’ 2021 Winter Conference - Everyone’s a Theologian.

Of the several sessions given, Pat recommended the address, “Sin Is Cosmic Treason: Our Supreme Folly” with James Dolezal. Listening, you will be reminded just how great God’s love is for sinners like me and you.

Todd Swift was our leader this month in reading through the London Baptist Confession of 1689. He reminded us that Chapter 16 – Of Good Works, has been built on the foundation of previous chapters on Justification, Adoption, Sanctification, Saving Faith, and Repentance. Our salvation is of the Lord, and good works are the fruits of that salvation.

By God’s grace and the working of His Spirit, believers have the great privilege and honor through their good works to “manifest their thankfulness, strengthen their assurance, edify their brethren, adorn the profession of the gospel, stop the mouths of the adversaries, and glorify God, whose workmanship they are.”

Next, Frank Barber gave an overview of our finances for December 2020. We are continually thankful for the generosity of the body in giving to the ministry of the gospel of Jesus Christ at Omaha Bible Church.

December saw an increase of $34,327 to net income contributing to a YTD net income over $77,000. Please pray for wisdom that we would be good stewards of our finances. We’re encouraged looking forward to the possibility, Lord willing, of paying off the remainder of our building loan when it comes due in June of 2023.

The pastors and elders are also thankful for the service of many in the various ministries of the church. Thinking of this month’s chapter in the LBC, let us all continue to encourage one another to love and good deeds (Hebrews 10:24).

Finally, if you have not yet heard, Pastor Pat with Mike Grimes as host, released on January 27, the first episode of a new podcast titled “The Pactum.” Pat will be conversing on “all things theological” with a plan to release one episode every Wednesday.

Please be praying for this new opportunity to contend for the faith and build up believers.

On behalf of the elders,

Dallas Focht
