Elders Report

The Elders of Omaha Bible Church met on January 30 for our monthly board meeting. We opened in prayer and with Thanksgiving for what the Lord is doing at OBC.

Frank Barber led us in review of Chapter 24 of the London Baptist Confession of 1689, which discusses the Civil Magistrate. Citing Romans 13:1, God has ordained government (civil magistrates) to be under him, over the people, for his own glory and the public good.

That is a great reminder during times of turmoil and general disagreement in Washington (and at home). It goes further that we ought to make supplications and prayers for kings and all who are in authority, that under them we may live a quiet and peaceable life, in all godliness and honesty.

That is convicting for me when it’s easier to grumble and complain than committing to consistent prayer for our leaders in civil government.

Treasurer Frank Barber presented the December financials. Giving for December was $60,813 and under budget by $26,401. YTD giving is $237,330 (Sept-Dec) and budget for that period is $267,385.

January giving looks even smaller, which will put us at a significant discount to where we need to be to finish the year. Expenses year to date are under budget by $23,000 as we try to manage our budget in light of giving.

Please be in prayer as to how you can faithfully support your church and its ministries.

We renewed the elder terms for Frank Barber and Dave Guthrie for another three years. It is a privilege to serve as one of the elders and alongside our pastoral staff.

May you be encouraged as well that the gospel is proclaimed, the Word is faithfully taught and the saints at OBC serve one another all for the glory of God.
