The Elders of Omaha Bible Church met on Wednesday morning, July 22, for their monthly meeting. Todd Swift opened the meeting in prayer, praising God for his glory and grace, thanking him for the all-sufficient salvation we have in Jesus Christ, and for the equipping of the church for service by the Holy Spirit.

Next, Andrew Meyer led us through a reading of the London Baptist Confession of 1689 on the topic of faith. The first paragraph reminds us that faith itself is a gift of God’s marvelous grace, the Holy Spirit working in our hearts to enable us to believe unto our salvation.

The second paragraph instructs that faith enables Christians to believe in the truth of God’s word, to entrust themselves to the truth believed and principally to focus directly on Christ—accepting, receiving, and resting upon him alone for justification, sanctification, and eternal life, by virtue of the covenant of grace. The final paragraph is an encouraging reminder that faith may sometimes be weak, and sometimes strong, but ultimately prevails because it rests upon the founder and perfecter of faith – Jesus Christ.

Next, Mike Grimes presented that attendance was at or around our average, followed by Dan Perina giving an update on the June financials. Income for June was $88,623 against a budget of $97,132. We continue to manage expenses and are confident God will provide for His church.

There is exciting news on the Strive project. Fences will go up around the construction areas the week of July 27. The first phase, demolition, will begin the first week of August. We thank God for all who have given in support of the project and look forward to seeing the upcoming improvements.

Additionally, we approved to support a portion of Daniel Wood’s seminary tuition at Reformed Theological Seminary. We are very encouraged to see how Daniel is progressing at seminary. Recently he was given a teaching assistant position for Dr. Guy Waters, a New Testament professor.

Lastly, the terms of service for several of our deacons will conclude at the end of September. They will be asked to prayerfully consider whether to serve another term. Please pray with them for wisdom and the Lord’s direction in their decision. We are thankful for the gifts the Holy Spirit has given these men, and for the service they have provided to the body at OBC.
