Deacons Report January 2026

The Deacons of Omaha Bible Church met on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 p.m. at Keith Walter’s home. Dwight Eveland opened our monthly meeting in prayer with thanksgiving and petitioned the Lord for His grace in directing us, our meeting and our church.

Vimal George led the meeting as Chairman. Dave Guthrie was present as the ministry guest.

Pastor Mike Holloway presented the favorable financial report for October and November is off to a good start. Mike is retiring as elder and his role as the Administrative Pastor. Christine Dixon has been hired as a part-time Office Manager to help with administrative duties.

In other updates, Dan Perina has been appointed Treasurer of the Elders; 14 new members will be joining OBC on a Sunday morning very soon; and the sound system upgrade is underway in the main auditorium with plans for completion in late January. The parking lot lighting fixture upgrade is complete.

The upcoming Men’s Retreat is confirmed for Feb. 6-7 at Carol Joy Holling Retreat Center. Mike was recognized for his many years of service as an elder, and will be greatly missed by the deacons as the long-standing elder representative at their meetings.

The deacons turned their attention to the Heidelberg Catechism, led by Keith Walter. We as deacons have adopted the reading of the Heidelberg Catechism at each of our meetings, one Lord’s Day at a time.

This month we discussed Lord’s Day 1 - Question 1, which says: “What is thy only comfort in life and death?” and 2) “How many things are necessary for thee to know, that thou, enjoying this comfort, mayest live and die happily?” We reviewed and discussed these questions, referring to the accompanying Bible scripture passages supporting the answers, all of which we found encouraging! Amen.

Dave Guthrie was our ministry guest. He is retiring at year-end as an OBC Elder and from his current career. Dave has served since 1991 as a founding member and Elder of OBC. Memories and stories were fondly shared by those present.

He requested prayer for the appointment of a new elder at some point in the future. Dave and Renee are planning on wintering in the Phoenix area while attending to the needs of his parents, and then returning to Omaha come spring.

Finally, we reviewed past agenda items, body life needs, and church building issues. Many thanks to everyone who helped install the new coffee maker in the kitchen. Fittingly, in prayer, led by Pastor Mike, we concluded our meeting at 9:00 p.m.

The next deacon’s meeting is scheduled for January 27, 2026.
