Living in Faith and Increasing in Love by Growing in Humility
2009 Women's Retreat
February 20 - 21, 2009
The Women's Retreat was in Nebraska City this year at the Lied Conference Center. It was a great time of food (which was never lacking), fellowship, and learning from God's Word.
Marlean Felix was our speaker for the weekend. Marlean is the wife of Paul Felix, who is a Professor of New Testament Greek at Master's Seminary. In addition to being a wife and mother, Marlean teaches elementary school, children's church, and mentors Master's Seminary wives.
Our time was spent focusing on humility - such a convicting topic! Friday night, we went through definitions of pride and humility and what the Bible has to say on these issues. Saturday, we went through some marks of a humble person and lessons of humility from the book of Ruth. Small group discussions allowed time for more personal discussion of the topics.
To wrap up the retreat, Marlean was interviewed by Cyndi Focht and was asked to share some personal insights into how she deals with pride in her own life. It was encouraging to see how open and honest Marlean was in talking about her own struggles. She emphasized how important prayer and spending time in the Word are both in being able to identify pride in our lives and deal with it properly. She also encouraged ladies to find people in their lives to hold them accountable in the particular areas they are struggling to grow in humility.
