Women's Workshop

Registration Now Open!

The theme of this year's workshop stems from our desire to boast in Christ in various areas of our lives, specifically in light of Psalm 40:3. Verses 1-3 read:

I waited patiently for the LORD; He inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the pit of destruction, out of the miry bog,and set my feet upon a rock, making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the LORD.

Please mark your calendar and plan to attend the workshop on March 3. You will have opportunity to hear Christ-exalting teaching from our keynote speaker, Therese Pille, as well as profit from the wisdom of various women eager to share with you that which the Lord has placed upon their hearts. We will also benefit from the sharing of wisdom and additional tools that have benefitted women in the body, including organizational tips, chore charts, helpful books, child training resources, and more. And as always, we anticipate rich fellowship and tasty treats! Set aside this day and prepare to come with a teachable heart!

An Overflowing Refrain:  "I Have Met a Man"
Therese Pille

In the keynote teaching, Therese will boast in Christ particularly as He was revealed during His earthly ministry. Jesus said, "He who has seen Me has seen the Father."  Christ manifested the glory of the Father to the world, and has given His glory to each believer so that we may glorify Him to those around us.  By grace and through the Spirit, our hearts overflow with praise to the Lord so that all we do and say "speaks" of His character and saving work in our lives.  Lord willing, each woman's life of praise encourages others around her to see the greatness of Christ and His work of salvation.

Sounding His Praise Before the World
Panel of selected women of OBC
Christ demonstrated His love by walking among strangers and meeting their needs, both physically and spiritually.  Christ glorified the Father in every act of kindness, provision of food, relief of suffering, and word of truth spoken.  We too are called to make our God known by bringing His love and gospel to our "neighbors" and strangers in need.  The members of this panel have all demonstrated Christ's great compassion for sinners to those who may not otherwise hear or experience it.  Listen and be encouraged that in their demonstration of love, Christ is made known.  Therese will lead this panel as one who for many years has reached out to strangers and will encourage all of us to glorify God through compassion and sacrifice as the Lord leads.

The following workshops will be offered.  Prayerfully consider which sessions you would prefer.  At registration, please indicate which 4 of the 6 you would like to attend.

Sounding Praise in Devotions
Michele Kennedy and Merrill Wiggins

Christians are saved to magnify the Lord to those around us. One way we can make this a reality is by growing in our love and knowledge of Him through personal time spent reading His word and humbling ourselves before Him in prayer. During this workshop, Michele & Merrill will show us different styles of daily devotions and encourage us to make personal time with the Lord a priority, regardless of one's circumstances or stage in life, that we might be better equipped to make our desire to worship God in quiet become or remain a reality.

Sounding Praise From the Heart
Carol Barber

God has taught and is continuing to teach Carol that delighting in Jesus Christ from morning to night impacts her attitudes, words, and actions as she faces the expected and unexpected circumstances of each day.  We know that Christ completely trusted in the will and the goodness of the Father; He demonstrated this as He responded perfectly in every circumstance.  As we increasingly trust God, His goodness will be displayed in us as well.  In this session, you will be encouraged to boast of the Lord to your own heart throughout the day by taking a  closer look at your thought life so that by grace you may cultivate thoughts in harmony with who He is and what He has done, leading to actions and reactions that display contentment, thankfulness, submission and praise.

Sounding Praise in the Family
Lori Degner
Lori loves to boast of the Lord, because she knows His wisdom is worthy of praise.  All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are in Christ.  When Christ was on earth, His every word brought amazement to those around Him because all He said was spoken in wisdom.  For the glory of the Savior, regardless of what she and her family face in their household and beyond, Lori desires to bring His wisdom to bear.  Come; be encouraged to boast of the Lord, using every opportunity to exalt Christ and His wisdom as we walk along the way with our families and extended families.

Sounding Praise Before Children
Robin Peterson
Raising their three children from babies to teenagers, Pastor Chris and Robin have been careful to bring them the truth of the gospel.  As our speaker lovingly disciplines her children she has desired to point them to Christ and show them their need for a Savior, while she prays, and waits to see God's plan for each child unfold.  During this workshop Robin will impart to us the priority of gospel centered discipline.  Whether your children are young or in their teens this session will help you boast in Christ by passing on the truth of who he is and what he has done to the next generation.

Sounding Praise Before the Body
Jenny Hare and Danielle German
In this session, Jenny and Danielle will discuss their hearts' desires to boast in Jesus to brothers and sisters in Christ as they exhort, support, encourage and work alongside others.  In the Gospels we read of Christ bringing glory to the Father by serving, teaching, and caring for believers around Him.  From her diagnoses to present (cancer-free) day, Jenny has been filled with praise that left little room for complaining.  During this session we will see a snapshot of the love of the body at its best, learn practical ways to serve each other, and leave with a greater desire to better cultivate our relationships with one another, understanding that when we do, we not only affect believers around us but unbelievers as well.

Sounding His Praise Supremely
Karen Walter
Do our priorities proclaim what God says is important?  When Christ was on this earth He faced many people competing for His attention and yet He always did His Father's will.  He glorified God, undistracted in accomplishing the works set before Him.  As Christian women we glorify God in our various roles as wife, mother, daughter, employee, church member, neighbor, etc.  Karen understands this and desires to share her wisdom in making the Lord her priority and then establishing everything else under Him and according to His Word.  During this workshop Karen will demonstrate how she works through her own choices and priorities, and will help us better understand how to order our lives for the glory and praise of the Savior.
