Ikon Student Ministries serves the spiritual development of youth, grades 9-12, at Omaha Bible Church in Omaha, Nebraska. It is our purpose to train young Christians to live out their profession of faith as they prepare to step out into the world on their own. Through the preaching of the Word, fellowship, service, and discipleship, we hope to see every student filled up with what is lacking in Christ.
WHY “IKON?”
“And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified.” (Romans 8:28-30)
The Greek term “eikon” is translated in English as “image.” This concept refers to more than just a representation like a statue or painting or photograph. The “eikon” is an exact representation. So much so that it can be said even to share in nature with its object of reference.
Ikon Student Ministries aims to support its participants in their journey to be made more in the image (eikon) of Christ (Col 3:10, Rom 8:28-30) just as Christ is THE image of God (Col 1:15). Through the discussion and consideration of current issues and their relation to the teachings of Scripture, it is my goal that the reader increases in knowledge, through the Holy Spirit that knowledge becomes wisdom, and ultimately the very character of Christ is magnified in the world.
