Pastoral Interns

One of the chief pastoral priorities for the church is to disciple men for leadership.
The Apostle Paul exhorted the young pastor Timothy along these lines:

"The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses,
entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." (2 Tim. 2.2)

As a local church, we aim to fulfill this charge.  One way in which we do this is through the Pastoral Internship Program.  This program, ranging from 2-4 years, is designed to give men a training platform for pastoral ministry.  Interns are responsible to complete an aggressive theological reading list, lead in ministry, teach in various settings, and complete required courses in the Cross-Redemption Leadership Training program (CLT).  The end goal of the program is to better equip men to lead and serve in the ministry of the local church.

Wayne Cantwell, Pastoral Intern

Wayne arrived in Omaha in the middle of a blizzard, February 1999, brought here courtesy of the United States Air Force. This was somewhat of a rude awakening as Wayne is from Texas.

On a light note, Wayne is a Texas boy at heart making Texas Roadhouse a regular eating place and walk down memory lane. And yes, he takes seriously his cowboy get-up complete with hat, buckle, and boots.

In August 2008, Wayne entered the pastoral internship program and has been serving in our leadership training program, in the areas of administration and teaching. His passion is to see men trained and raised up to be leaders in the local church to the glory of God.  With this in mind, his desire is to complete the pastoral internship to be better equipped in accomplishing that task.

Wayne was saved by the grace of God here in Omaha while serving in the Air Force. He met his wife Shanna at Omaha Bible Church while in the Crossroads ministry. They have a daughter, Leah Jasiel, and a son James.

Wayne currently works as a civilian at Offutt AFB and is also a medic in the Air Force Reserves.

Perry German, Pastoral Intern

Perry was born and raised in Oklahoma City.  His parents brought him up to believe in God and to fear His power and wrath, but taught that his good works would merit God's favor and eventual eternal life in heaven.  This moralistic approach to life would prove to be futile though as Perry found out in his teenage years that he did not want to be good or do right.  His rebellion from God's requirement for perfect obedience to His law led to a deceptive lifestyle that culminated with run-ins with the law.  This sinful path of destruction led to personal dismay, heartache, and damaged trust from those who loved him.

Seeking to find restoration, Perry entered college at the University of Tulsa determined to right his wrongs and to steer himself down a better path.  But his vile and deceptive heart would continue to lead him astray as he found himself continuing the vicious cycle that initially led him into trouble.  He knew that if he did not change, that he would end up in jail.  So he began to look for a church to help fix his problems.  But this wasn't the answer either.  He soon noticed that being inside of those four walls wouldn't prevent him from continuing down his path of destruction no matter how good he tried to be.

He would soon find that the solution could only be realized through the person and work of Jesus Christ.  God would graciously redeem him in March of 1998 while he was still in college.  The Lord shined the light of the glory of the gospel of Jesus Christ on his heart through the faithful preaching of the local church that he was attending in Tulsa.  By the power and work of the Holy Spirit, he would see his own depravity and need for the Savior, and repent of his sin and trust in Christ for salvation.

Jeff Gonzales, Pastoral Intern

Jeff was born and raised in San Antonio, TX where he lived until he went to college at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX. Jeff came to know the saving Gospel in his teens, but it is hard for him to point to an exact date.  He does know that God has saved him from his sin through the work of Christ, but instead of looking to a date or decision in the past, He looks to the present and sees Christ's continual sanctifying work in his life as he continues to grow through the word, and rest in the precious and finished work of Christ.

After college in 2009, Jeff moved up to Omaha to look for work and to be closer to Julie, whom He was dating at the time. By God's grace, He led Jeff and Julie to Omaha Bible Church.  Jeff is now happily married, as of 9/10/11, to Julie and currently serves in Crossroads and leads the Nursery Ministry.

Jeff has a strong desire to preach the Word through expository preaching and to point others to Christ, so Jeff enrolled in the Internship to be better equipped to do that and to prepare him for Seminary. In his free time, Jeff also enjoys storm chasing, tennis, basketball, and water sports.

Andrew Meyer, Pastoral Intern

Andrew is 25 years old.  He was born in Phoenix, Arizona.  He lived in Iowa for 5 years and has been in Omaha ever since. He has been attending OBC for almost 6 years and is involved in the college crossroads ministry.

He loves basketball, golf and playing his bass guitar.  He is married to the beautiful Katelyn Meyer.  He enjoys hanging out with friends.  He loves studying Gods word, and learning about the greatness of Christ!

God graciously put him in a family that attended church regularly and was able to here the word preached.  But it wasn't until his second year in college where God showed him his lack of understanding in what he truly believed.  It wasn't until then when the Holy Spirit started working in his life, giving him a desire to want to truly know what the scriptures said.  Not long after that the gospel really hit him hard, showing him that he was a sinner before a holy God and needed a savior and that savior was Jesus Christ.  As a result of what Christ did in his life, death and resurrection, Andrew has had a strong desire since to want to live for Him and live his life according to Gods will and not his own.

As a result in growing in the knowledge of God, Andrew has desired to pursue pastoral ministry full time.  His desire for doing the pastoral internship first comes from his desire to know and better understand the truth, specifically the truth about the gospel of Jesus Christ.  As one who has much to learn, Andrew will take any and every opportunity he can get to learn more about the word of God. The pastoral internship will be a great opportunity for him to learn and grow in different areas that will help him be a godly leader and pastor and one who better understands the gospel.
