what to expect on Sundays at OBC
Sunday mornings at OBC are a fun time.
The services are aimed toward the glory and pleasure of God while
intending to equip believers with a better understanding, appreciation and
motivation towards the supremacy of God.
Due to
growth we have recently added a second am service. The first service meets at 8:30 and the
second at 11:00. In between these
services, at 10:00, is our Sunday School hour (schedule). Throughout all of the Sunday activities childcare
is provided.
/profile
As a church we are relatively young with a median age in the thirties. The dress on Sunday morning tends towards business casual, however, on any given Sunday you will see folks wearing anything from shorts to suits. The average attendance between the two services is roughly 500.
One of the great features of OBC throughout
the years has been the welcoming of visitors.
With the church growing it is encouraging to see this trend
continuing. Following a welcome and
introduction we take a few minutes to meet and greet one another. This is a great time to get to know new
people. If you are coming for the first
time, take advantage of this time to introduce yourself.
/music
Music is
an exciting aspect of worship. Our style
may be categorized as contemporary. We
have a full band and a music leader who leads the congregation during our
time of musical worship. It is our aim
to select music that is God honoring.
Therefore, our lyrics are carefully reviewed and often times rewritten
in order to sing that which is consistent with what God has revealed.
/preaching
Preaching
is central focus of our worship time. It
is in this time that we receive instruction from God through His written Word. The pulpit ministry of OBC is an expositional
ministry; meaning that the preacher is committed to drawing out from the text
what the author’s intended meaning is and making it simple, clear and practical
in its application. Sermons typically
last 45 minutes and are the highlight of our time together.
/fellowship
Following the sermon we sing a closing song and a leader from the church closes us in prayer. It is typical for folks to congregate together for extended periods talking about the life, ministry, theology and everything in between.
We also
have a Sunday evening service which begins at 6:00. This is another service which is similar in
most ways to the morning service with the exception of the sermon text. We typically work through two different books
of the Bible at the same time, one in the morning and another in the evening.
